サマースクールの紹介

西洋中世学会会員の皆様
 大阪府立大学の佐々木博光と申します。ヴォルフェンビュッテルのヘルツォーク・アウグスト図書館は毎夏インターナショナル・サマースクールを開催しています。この行事の世話人Dr. Volker Bauerさんから、今年と来年のテーマに関する情報をもらいましたので、お知らせします。

 2011年はFrühneuzeitliche Körpergeschichte、近世のテーマです。2012年が中世史の番で、Frau Schlotheuber aus Münsterを講師に招き、Schrift- bzw. Buchkulturというテーマで行われます。応募資格はDoktorand、Studentなどの若手研究者です。昨夏にわたしが滞在したときにちょうど開催中でしたが、総勢20名弱の欧米各国の学生、院生に大変よい機会になっているようでした。待遇もいいようです。詳しい情報は、ヘルツォーク・アウグスト図書館のホームページ(www.hab.de)で、ForschungのNachwuchsförderungをクリックし、Sommerkursに進めば得られます。いまはまだ昨夏の35回の広告があがっていますが、応募資格・書類、待遇等の説明が載っています。大きな変更はないと思われます。ご活用下さい。

 なお補足ですが、Dr. Volker Bauerさんの連絡では、2012年のSchrift- bzw. Buchkulturの講師はFrau Prof. Schlotheuber aus Muensterとなっていますが、これは現在DuesseldorfにいるFrau Prof. Eva Schlotheuberのことだと思います。ご参考までに。

October 13-16, 2011
The German Historical Institutes in London and Washington are pleased to announce the sixth Medieval History Seminar, to be held in Washington, from October 13 to 16, 2011. The seminar is designed to bring together American, British and German Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D. recipients (2009-2010) in medieval history for a weekend of scholarly discussion and collaboration. They will have the opportunity to present their work to their peers as well as to dis?tinguished scholars from both sides of the Atlantic. Conveners for the 2011 seminar will be professors Michael Borgolte (Humboldt-Uni?ver?sität zu Berlin), Frank Rexroth (Universität Göttingen), Patrick J. Geary (University of California, Los Angeles), Barbara H. Rosenwein (Loyola University Chicago), Dame Janet L. Nelson (King’s College London) and Miri Rubin (Queen Mary, University of London).
The Medieval History Seminar welcomes proposals from all areas of medieval history. Par?ticipation is not limited to historians working on German history or German-speak?ing regions of Europe. Nor is a particular epoch or methodological approach prefer?red. Applications from neighboring disciplines are welcome if the projects have a distinct historical focus.
Papers and discussions will be conducted both in German and English. Successful applicants must be prepared to submit a paper of approximately 5 000 words by September 1, 2011. They also are expected to act as commentator for other papers presented in the seminar.
The GHI will cover the travel and lodging expenses of the participants.
Applications should include:

? a curriculum vitae (including address and e-mail);

? a description of the proposed paper (4-5 pages, double-spaced);

? one letter of recommendation.

Call for papers Rijeka Conference May 2011

organize the Fifth International Conference of Iconographic Studies

Sovereign and Iconography of Political Power and Representation
Rijeka, 25 -27 May, 2011

This conference is organized to encourage interdisciplinary dialogue as well as to continue the cycle of sessions for scholarly discourse on the significant subjects in iconographic studies. The conference presentations will be dealing with different subjects concerning political iconography, with accent on the representations of sovereign, in art and literature with main accent on the European Middle Ages but also with references to the precedent and following periods.

The themes and subjects for discussion are as following:

– representation(s) of sovereign in art and literature ? major outline and miscellaneous depictions
– political concepts of representing a sovereign
– images of sovereign as reflexions of political, cultural, ideological, theological and sociological ideas
– sovereigns’ portraits and social hierarchies
– sovereigns as patrons
– representations of sovereigns in different media
– literary sources and tradition
– regional characteristcs/specifics in the images of political power

One of the objectives is to inform scholars, students and other interested in the field, of the recent research results in the studies in iconography. The conference papers will deal with methodological approaches within iconography and iconology – new methods, new concepts and scholarship stressed the need of interdisciplinary approach in research which resulted in somewhat altered interpretation of the meaning of images.

ESPACES RURAUX ET ESPACES URBAINS DANS L’HISTOIRE
Date limite de soumission des propositions de textes (500 mots) : 16 décembre 2010
Pour ce numéro thématique de la revue d’histoire de l’Université de Sherbrooke, nous sollicitons les contributions d’étudiants de 2e et 3e cycles (articles scientifiques, comptes-rendus de lectures, notes critiques ou bilan historiographiques), sur le thème des espaces ruraux et des espaces urbains. Les textes d’étudiants d’autres disciplines sont également les bienvenus.
Les propositions peuvent porter sur les éléments suivants, sans en exclure d’autres : la population, les formes et coutumes de l’habitat, les modes de gouvernement, les échanges (par exemple économiques ou culturels), la justice, les rapports entre ces espaces (de coopération, de domination,…).
Les propositions d’articles, de notes critiques ou de bilan historiographiques (500 mots) sont attendues pour le 16 décembre par courrier électronique, accompagnées par un bref C.V.
Le comité éditorial vous communiquera sa réponse la semaine suivante.
Les textes complets ainsi que les comptes-rendus de lecture seront attendus pour la fin du mois de janvier afin d’être évalués par le comité scientifique de la revue, dont vous trouverez la composition sur notre site.
